XML World 2002 is a conference and exhibition that, over the last five years, has brought together developers, implementers, customers and vendors from across the globe to explore the XML phenomenon. It is an event that has consistently sought a balance between business and technology, development and implementation, hype and reality. It is an event that is unique within the landscape in that it welcomes product vendors from a number of separate, but related, domains under one roof and it does so because, as an event, XML World understands that organizations and individuals are looking for an efficient and effective way to become acquainted with many concurrent trends.

XML World 2002 will, in essence, host a group of events that have in the past been staged separately and that focus on Content Management, Portal Solutions, Wireless Applications, and Electronic Business Environments. This year, each of these components will constitute an independent track over which a Co-Chair, selected for their leadership in each field, will sculpt a timely and relevant program. This approach will allow attendees to focus their attention on different domains, themes or levels of detail as will best suit their needs. Alternatively, attendees who are very focused on a specific domain, such as Wireless Applications, can maintain that focus even while gaining insight into the differentiating role that XML has been playing, and will continue to play, in their field.

To make this timely vision a reality, the Conference Chair from past XML World events has been joined by leading authorities who will act as the Conference Co-Chairs in their respective fields of endeavor: Danny Boulanger from InterDoc Corporation and long-standing champion of Content Management technology, Sandeep Singhal an industry thought-leader in the Wireless market, and J.P. Morgenthal of iKimbo and noted author on the role XML can play in enterprise portal solutions.

Who Should Attend

Everyone who needs to understand the revolutions occurring around them, and the changes occurring in their tools and in their business, should make XML World 2002 the one mandatory item on this year's calendar. Developers, architects, technology managers, business strategists, integrators, and investors, have all noticed that several topics seem to reappear constantly in their projects and plans - manageable content, wireless interfaces, unified portal views, and unstoppable transactions.

And they have also noticed that one theme lurks behinds all of these topics - the pervasive impact of the internet and of its emergent data format, XML. It is with these people in mind - developers, architects, technology managers, business strategists, integrators, and investors, that XML World 2002 has been formed as the one event tailored to address these topics and this central theme. For all attendees, XML World 2002 offers a chance to cover a great deal of essential territory with just one trip.

Track Co-Chairs of XML World:

 Portal XML
JP Morgenthal Over the past year, the term portal has taken on very different meanings to many audiences. The term portal as defined by Webster's dictionary is a door or entrance; especially a grand or imposing one. Certainly, this is a
befitting definition even in the sense of a Web-based portal acting as a grand doorway to a plethora of information stored within.

This year's Portal World Track will focus on the role of the portal in the
enterprise. Over the past year, many organizations have started to expand the use of portals internally as a way for them to communicate with their internal and external netizens. For the internal netizens, the portal is an important conduit of employee information, such as health and retirement benefits, upcoming events, and, in some forward thinking organizations, a conduit for communicating with executive management. The external netizens are our customers and suppliers.

Here, the portal provides access to real-time information on orders placed and shipped, internal processes, and communications with critical team members needed to ensure a positive external experience.

We will also look to the future of portals in the enterprise and discuss the dreams and realities of an emerging "digital dashboard".

With a backdrop of New Orleans, this year's Portal World is certain to be good time to learn, share, and most importantly, eat! We look forward to seeing you there.

 Wireless XML
Sandeep K. Singhal For years, we have all heard the promise of wireless data -- to reduce costs, to increase productivity, to enable new types of business interactions. The first wave of wireless business solutions targeted vertical markets with expensive,
proprietary technologies.

The second wave of wireless business solutions brought the promise of Web-based technologies but faced interoperability, cost, and user experience limitations.

The third wave of wireless data is here - using standard, cost-effective wireless technologies to solve real business problems. The third wave is built on Internet and Web-based standards, using interoperable components, sophisticated middleware tools, and a new focus on multi-channel, network-independent, device-independent content delivery.

These solutions solve real business problems. The Wireless Business Conference 2002 is pleased to associate itself with the XML World 2002 conference and the Wireless XML track will showcase how the third wave of wireless is changing the enterprise today.

  Content XML
Content Management has evolved into a killer application for the use of Intranets, B2C and B2E applications. XML has quickly established itself as the tool to create, manage and publish different types of data and information. Solution
providers offer a strong XML capability and enable the interoperability, platform cross processing, personalization, localization and globalization of content.

However, the emerging trend seems to be that one can no longer rely solely on vendors of content management applications to meet our complete business requirements. Key application providers of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP), Customer Resources Planning (CRM), Portals, and Electronic Document Management (EDM) do mostly only provide some technological module for content management.

The vertical focus of content management within the XML World conference enables you to obtain a strong understanding on how to use different XML tools to properly manage the content base of your business requirements. XML World will also provide you with a better perspective on how to maximize XML within software content management solutions.
