XML Web Services As An Information Architecture |
Services-oriented architecture (SOA) is a new model for building enterprise applications. SOA provides a framework for XML-enabling existing business functions and information sources and assembling them into new functional processes. These processes execute defined information flows and transaction processing.
The SOA architecture allows individual services to be re-used and the interfaces to be abstracted so that disparate applications can be built by many different groups of developers in tightly coupled and loosely coupled development projects. This presentation will discuss the benefits of SOA and provide an understanding of how you can map todays technology to a Web services model. |

Distributed Information Management Via XML & Java. |
As information becomes more distributed across enterprises, the need increases for a layer of abstraction to aggregate relational information, unstructured data, real-time data accessed via Web services and asynchronous data into a common connectivity interface while at the same time supporting the manipulation of data across a distributed environment.
This presentation will focus on Java-based frameworks to enable the coordination of synchronous and asynchronous interactions with information systems in a transactional manner leveraging the Java Connector Architecture (JCA), Web services, JDBC and XML. |

State of XML in Collaborative Engineering |
Collaborative engineering on a global, multi-enterprise basis is an accelerating business trend. The communication needs of engineers working together on common projects present unique challenges that are increasingly being met by the application of XML technologies.
This presentation briefly outlines the scope of this type of business interaction and the special technical requirements involved. Next, the status of worldwide XML standards activities that are focused on collaborative engineering is reviewed, and application examples are presented in the areas of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Visualization, and Digital Manufacturing.
Finally, experience an in-depth walk through of the xml messaging framework and supporting systems architecture of the NIST-funded Project for PDM Information Exchange. Demonstrated live at the AutoTech conference last month (August, 2002), this project is a joint effort of members of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and the Open Applications Group (OAGI). |

Enterprise Partnership through Source Code Escrow |
Primarily for XML developers selling to enterprises, we offer a thorough introduction to the legal ins and outs of software escrow. Software escrow is where a trusted third party administers agreements between software developers and licensees to maintain access to the source code in the event the developer defaults on support or goes out of business.
Thus, the licensee could access the source code for maintenance, minimizing down time. This in depth presentation will review the critical clauses, applications, pitfalls, and processes of software escrow in the United Sates and abroad. |

Understanding the requirements for a successful
enterprise-wide Web Reporting Solution. |
Until now, Web Reporting solutions have been greatly overlooked and what most people don't realize is that deploying a reporting solution that meets all the requirements necessary for successful Web deployment is a key component in managing your business needs.
For an enterprise-wide web reporting strategy to be successful, the reporting infrastructure must be able to support the efficient creation of large numbers of reports, and integrate with the enterprise-wide IT infrastructure that is already in place.
Having the ability to effectively create and maintain a large number of reports, while leveraging all of your data sources is crucial to managing an effective reporting solution.

Using XML and multichannel publishing to get the most
from yourcontent management system |
How are thousands of companies successfully reducing information publishing costs and dramatically speeding time to market, while at the same time increasing the quantity and quality of information in the rapidly growing number of customer desired formats such as Web, Print, PDF, Wireless, PDA?
During this session Arbortext will describe the processes and components of a single-source, multichannel publishing system that leverages XML to make accurate information accessible and reusable across the organization. Arbortext will also describe how this information can be published automatically for dynamic, interactive content in multiple media.
Attendees of this session will also learn how an XML-based content management system provides a robust, modular, reusable, and easily maintainable information collection that can expand current publishing processes and provide new opportunities - such as
ad-hoc publishing, personalized publishing, and just-in-time integration of business data. |

Using Standards-Based XML for eBusiness |
Extensible markup language (XML) is emerging as the great enabler of e-Business. Because it reduces the time-to-market and cost of implementation, XML is a driving force behind the technological shift that is leveling the competitive business playing field -- between big and small, incumbent and start-up.
The low-entry cost and flexibility of XML enables fast-time-to-market for new e-Com initiatives. In this presentation, the speaker will explore how standards-based XML facilitates rapid content creation and helps make content available anywhere, in any format, and on any device. He will describe how publishing templates based on XML allows non-technical, knowledge workers to create, deploy, and repurpose content.
Citing the importance of seamless supply chain exchange in e-Com, the presenter will explain how templating can extend content replication capabilities to business partners and can automate distribution of content elements to external parties as standardized XML.
The session outlines how XML can be used to create an evolutionary path to e-Business that does not require re-architecting of existing web applications. |

Delivering XML-tagged Content to Your Customers. |
While it is essential to have a content management system that utilizes XML, it is just as necessary to have a way to deliver it to the end user. This session explores the problem of delivering content in a usable form that meets both the customers' requirements for delivery time and is in a usable format.
Additionally, this session will explore how to round-trip content from the delivered form back to the content management system.

Building XML applications in science and technology |
XML for scientific databases. Electronic data interchange and exchange (EDIE) in science and technology becomes one of important activities in scientific communities. XML is an ideal technology for scientists to deal with EDIE. This paper covers both how to construct scientific data into XML format and how to display scientific data with designed XML format into web, with particular attention to how to establish a complete set of models in XML application including either XML DTDs, XML Schema or XML document associated with document structure and XSL and XPath associated with presentation in web.
The data with XML format has been displayed in the web successfully with a specific sample obtained from a published scientific paper [11]. With the methods employed in this study, the efficiency and effectiveness of constructing data structure and displaying via web has been demonstrated. It further concluded that this methodology could be expanded to apply to more complex data structures, particularly in the era of multidiscipline and interdiscipline research, and to build scientific data warehouse in future. Keywords: Electronic data intechange and exchange, XML, scientific databases, plane strain tension, XSL, XPath. DTDs for EDIEST, web publishing.
